Good weather conditions and sound land management are the perfect recipe for healthy crops. From courgettes to cabbages, farmer Karen shares that all her crops have grown much better than last year, displaying thicker and more robust stems, with results from the Brix meter demonstrating a more pest-resilient state. However, they faced a situation where no regenerative practices could save them – cow intrusion! A recent uninvited visit (and snacking on crops!) from a bovine friend disrupted Karen’s plans for expansion and implementation of certain practices.

    As mulch has been incredibly hard to come by, Karen’s original plan was to make her own by drying some of the cut grass, but the cow snaffled a significant portion for its breakfast! (before and after the cow intrusion)

    As the plants enter the growth stage, the cabbages continue to display good health. This is a sign of meeting the plants’ needs for various nutrients, so they have energy to use not only to grow but also to protect themselves against pests and diseases.

    After learning more about the application of the BFA solution, Karen is now ready to try out the practice herself and make her own compost.

    As Grow Something only started its transition towards regenerative farming last October, Karen admits she is still not familiar with some of the science behind the practices. Yet her trust in the process outweighed the uncertainty, and improved results gave her assurance.
